Biomedical
Engineering is the utilization of engineering principles and techniques to the
medical field. It associates the design and problem solving skills of
engineering with medical and biological sciences to help improve patient health
care and the quality of life of individuals. It’s an established international
discipline of engineering that is accomplished round the world in the hospitals,
healthcare centers, rehabilitation units and research & manufacturing
organizations.
The developing
financial status of Australia is justifying the scope of different engineering
fields for the skilled workers who are applying for the Australia Permanent Residence. Australia is considered as one of the best places for immigrants
with bright career opportunities; in the matter of migration. It’s safe and
secure country, called as a home for more than 200 countries citizen across the
world. And Biomedical engineering professionals has been proving to be an
expanding field for the aspirants.
Biomedical
Engineering combines knowledge of electronic, mechanical, chemical and
materials-engineering, with the life sciences of medicine, biology and
molecular biology. Biomedical engineers work with doctors and medical
scientists, researching and designing ways to improve health care and medical
services. Biomedical devices:
- Support and
enhance human life
- Help
individuals to overcome physical disabilities
- Aid in
delivering medical procedures
- Test and
deliver data which improve health and safety.
According to Ministry
of Business, Innovation and Employment estimates the number of biomedical
engineers remained impartially secure between 2010 and 2012. However, the
job appears on Immigration New Zealand's long-term skill shortage list too, which
means the Government is encouraging biomedical engineers from overseas to work
in Australia and in New Zealand in combined form.
The disciplines of
Biomechanics and Bioengineering are rapidly expanding with developments in
Biosensor Technology, Tissue Engineering and Nanotechnology. They use
microcomputers, lasers, and other materials to develop and improve medical
research equipment that is used to diagnose health problems. They are involved
in the development of medical products and different types of equipment used to
monitor and treat patients and in designing and improving equipment for
disabled people.
A biomedical engineer
working in a hospital are responsible for the safe and effective operation of
equipment such as monitoring, diagnostic, and therapeutic medical equipment
ranging from catheters, CAT scanners, pacemakers and kidney machines.
Biomedical engineers
also design and deliver technology to improve the quality of life of people
with disabilities. For example, they may develop equipment to assist people who
may have difficulty walking, communicating or carrying out simple daily tasks. An
engineering degree gives you a solid technical and design foundation combined
with strong analytical, problem solving and communication skills valued across
a range of industries.
Biomedical engineers
may move into managerial roles. Those who work in universities may become tertiary
lecturers, assistant professors, or professors. Biomedical engineers may specialize
in areas such as:
- Biotechnology – developing commercial products using living material. For example, designing organisms to produce antibiotics
- Medical imaging – creating images of the human body for research, or to assist with diagnosis of disease or injury
- Instrumentation – development of new instruments, such as heart monitoring systems, for diagnosis, treatment or measurement of body processes
- Development of prostheses and implants – artificial replacements for body parts including limbs and internal organs
- Tissue engineering – repairing or making artificial replacements for tissues such as blood vessels and skin
- Nanotechnology – research and development of extremely small products such as microscopic sensors that can measure changes in body tissue. Read more Australia Immigration
